OUR STORY
We know a thing or two about needing more space.
College, especially freshman year, is a fun and exciting adventure. For most individuals, it is the very first time living on your own. You will likely have the opportunity to set up your room just how you want. But, despite all your plotting and planning, you might be overwhelmed when you walk into your small dorm and wonder how in the world you are going to fit all of your belongings. Whether you are a light packer or an over-packer, there never seems to be enough space. No matter how many times you rearrange the furniture, you are out of luck; there is no more room. Where are you going to put your bulky college textbooks? Your printer? Your lamp? Your TV? Or any other belongings to make your tiny dorm room feel like home?
Believe us when we say we understand this struggle of fitting all of your belongings in your dorm rooms and college apartments. Regardless of whether we lived with one roommate, four roommates, or by ourselves, we never had enough space, causing us to feel disorganized and overwhelmed. We soon realized that we weren’t alone – 93% of college students wish their dorm rooms had more space.

As triplets, we were inspired to work together to innovatively devise a solution to this dilemma. Together, we created a sleek shelving unit that fits on top of the school-issued desk hutch in search of a practical way to maximize space within our dorms. All three of us have used our shelves and can attest to their sturdiness and utility. Our shelves transformed our dorm rooms and apartments - they helped us stay organized by maximizing our space and providing more surface area for all our belongings. College dorm life has never been so easy!

At Villanova, we were always encouraged to think outside the box, work collaboratively, and follow our passions, which inspired us to convert our idea into our very own startup business, Top Shelf Designs, LLC (TSD). We have worked diligently to refine our product line and are committed to making the best shelves for our customers. We are so proud of how far we’ve come and are incredibly excited to share our shelves with you.

JESSICA MCGLOIN
Co-Founder
Jessica is a current JD Candidate at Seton Hall Law and a proud graduate of Villanova University, Class of 2021. She holds an Honors degree in Political Science with a Business minor. Jessica oversees sales, marketing, intellectual property, and customer service. Her expertise, along with her resourcefulness and attention to detail, make Jessica a true asset to the TSD team.

MELISSA MCGLOIN
Co-Founder
Melissa is currently pursuing her JD at Seton Hall Law. She is a proud graduate of Villanova University, Class of 2021. Melissa holds an Honors degree in Political Science with a double concentration in Global Business and PPE (Politics, Philosophy, Economics) and an Honors Business minor. In addition to TSD, Melissa owns and operates a home and college décor shop on Etsy​!
At TSD, Melissa's responsibilities include creative design, research & development, web development, vendor relations, and sustainability efforts. With her innovative perspective and project management experience, Melissa is an integral part of TSD.

WILLIAM MCGLOIN
Co-Founder
Billy is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Data Science & Analytics at Georgetown University. He is a proud graduate of Villanova University, Class of 2021. He holds an Honors degree in Economics and Business Analytics with a Political Science minor and a concentration in PPE (Politics, Philosophy, Economics). His core responsibilities include data analytics, product design, supply chain management, and finances. Billy's practical approach, motivation, and creative problem-solving skills make him a valuable part of TSD.
